Using the detailed list below, you will place each assignment that is attached to a theme into the Program Themes page on your ePortfolio.  You should use the works and files needed list to keep track of what assignments will be placed into the appropriate ePortfolio page. 

 

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the Medical Sonography Program, the graduate should be qualified to:

 

  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skill required for employment in a hospital or clinic radiology/cardiology department (ultrasound area)

  • Demonstrate leadership and critical thinking

  • Conduct him-/herself in a professional manner in all interactions

  • Comply with the current standards and practices set by the governing bodies and professional organizations

  • Apply advanced practice in ultrasonography

 

In the Diagnostic Medical Sonography, BS program, we expect you the student to be personally responsible and an active participant in your outcomes. To do this you must know what they are, where they are taught, and how we assess or review their success. This section of your ePortfolio is designed to accomplish all three elements.

 

Your task will be the understanding and collection throughout the program of key assignments that address these outcomes or themes. In addition to the key assignments, your signature project, service learning, and self-directed projects all capture or work towards the experience of these themes.

 

Program Learning Outcome (PLO) Details​​

 

A - Demonstrate the knowledge and skill required for employment in a hospital or clinic radiology/cardiology department (ultrasound area)

Knowledge and skill required for employment post-graduation are defined as: Your ability to respond in a professional manner to all student colleagues, instructors and staff.  To perform ultrasound exams, that are complete, with supervision and assistance, and explain your findings.  To communicate clearly and completely with all staff, co-workers, and patients.  Accept constructive criticism when provided and also communicate your input in all areas.

  • Formative: RTCH 387 Writing for Health Care Professionals - Implementation plan

  AHCJ 318 Fundamentals of Healthcare

  RTMS 971-978 Clinical Affiliation; daily interaction with patients and clinical instructors.

  • Summative: AHCJ Senior Portfolio II, Signature project paper

    RTCH 489 Effective Communication for Supervisors  ?Assignment

 

How students are evaluated:

Student Clinical Competency Book will be utilized to evaluate students in these areas along with quarterly “milestone” exams.

 

B - Demonstrate leadership and critical thinking

 

Leadership and critical thinking are defined as: Student interactions in the clinical setting as well as the classroom.  Taking self-initiative to assist others in a variety of ways is being ready to participate in class, assisting sonographers to prepare the room for the next patients, and helping in all small ways that present themselves.

 

Key Assignment Details (Course and assignment):

  • Formative: AHCJ  318 EI & Leadership skills for Healthcare Professionals  ?assignment

  • Summative: RTMS 974 Medical Sonography Clinical Affiliations Milestone exams will be proctored.

 

How students are evaluated:

Milestone exams will be provided and the practical exam will be given.  Student Cases (PowerPoints) will be presented to the class.


C - Conduct him-/herself in a professional manner in all interactions

 

A professional manner is defined as: Communicating in all situations with kindness and patience no matter what the circumstances.  Treating others as you wish to be treated in all situations no matter how challenging.

                       RTCH 464 Moral Leadership  ? assignment

  • Summative: RTCH 467 Management of  Radiology Service  ? assignment

 

How students are evaluated:

Communication skills are assessed during quarterly milestones and Student Competency Workbook assessment.

 

D - Comply with the current standards and practices set by the governing bodies and professional organizations

 

Current standards and practices are: Those standards and practices mandated at each affiliate site and by our professional organizational bodies.

 

Key Assignment Details (Course and assignment):

  • Formative: RTMS 344 & 348Intro & Abdominal Sonography  Student;  “milestone exams”

  • Summative: RTMS 384 Professionalism in Sonography; Term paper

 

E - Apply advanced practice in ultrasonography

 

Current standards and practices are: Those set by our Professional Organizations.  Each affiliate will vary slightly. Our goal/outcome is that our student in the last 6 months of the program can perform exams surpassing minimal competency required by our credentialing body

 

Key Assignment Details (Course and assignment):

  • Formative: RTMS 972 Clinical Affiliation; complete competencies and pass “milestones"

  • Summative: RTMS 975 Clinical Affiliation;  complete successful competencies with less “needs improvement” and passing the “milestones”

 

It is important to note that each outcome or theme is presented and taught in more than the assignments indicated above. The assignments are a sample of your learning and accomplishments.
